Moritex USA Inc. has introduced a line of multimode, step-index plastic optical fibers and assemblies. The fibers have a transparent PMMA core and a fluoropolymer clad fiber that deliver <100-dB/km attenuation from 450 to 600 nm, and their large fiber diameter and numerical aperture produce significant power-coupling capacity. The company says the fibers offer exceptional transmission from 400 to 770 nm and superb rupture strength, elongation and durability. They are suitable for data transmission in factory automation, audio systems, automotive controls, vehicle navigation and LANs, or they can be used as lightguides for industrial inspection and measurement, medical instrumentation, electrical appliances and automotive lighting. Other applications include sensors and decorative illumination.
