An automated laser welding assembly platform for fiber optic components has been unveiled by Newport Corp. The AutoWeld series features integrated material-handling systems and unattended operation, as well as vision-guided and FastAlign technology. Tooling and fixturing platforms and advanced laser welding technology have also been added. Available in two versions, the 4000 series incorporates a three-beam welding geometry for pigtailing applications, and the 4200 series is designed for two-beam welding applications such as DFB laser assembly. The platform is compatible with the LaserWeld PCS processes and algorithms.
