Biomedical optics, lasers, LEDs, fiber optic components and devices, nanotechnology, and microfabrication will be topics at Photonics West 2008. The six-day event is expected to draw more than 17,000 and will feature four symposia: BiOS, LASE, MOEMS/MEMS and OPTO. About 3100 technical papers will be presented, 80 technical courses and workshops will be offered, and 1100 companies will exhibit products.

Blustery winds, drumming rain and temperatures hovering in the 40s continued into the sixth day of the conference, but traffic at both the conferences and exhibition remained hearty, SPIE said.
