Heat Treating with High Power Diode Lasers
CO2 lasers have been used to case harden metal products for decades, but their low reliability and electical conversion efficiency makes them less than ideal for such heat treating tasks. High-powered laser diode lasers overcome the disadvantages of CO2 lasers. This article reviews the basic of laser-based heat treating and its optimum uses, and compares CO2 to diode lasers.
