The TCS SP5 X, a confocal microscope with a supercontinuum laser that allows for greater flexibility with fluorescence microscopy, is available from Leica Microsystems GmbH. The device allows any excitation line within the continuous range of 470 to 670 nm to be selected, and it also adapts precisely to any existing or future fluorescent dye. Other features include adjustments of the excitation line to the sample in 1-nm increments, which reduces cross excitation and minimizes sample damage, and multicolor excitation with up to eight lines operating simultaneously.
