PicoQuant GmbH has introduced a 485-nm picosecond pulsed diode laser head that can be used to excite fluorescent proteins such as GFP as well as fluorescent dyes. It has a pulse duration as short as 80 ps, which matches the time resolution of mainstream detectors. The device has peak power up to 200 mW, a typical spectral width of 7 nm FWHM and a center wavelength of 485 ±10 nm.
