Carl Zeiss MicroImaging GmbH has unveiled Definite Focus, a system for its Axio Observer.Z1 inverted research microscope that counteracts drifting in the Z-direction. Coupled directly to the nosepiece carrier, the instrument measures the distance between the specimen and the objective, then calculates and corrects for possible deviations from the nominal value. It has applications in the research of cell cultures in fields including developmental biology and molecular genetics.
