AD SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

Advertising material must adhere to the specifications listed below to ensure the quality of reproduction. Laurin Publishing cannot be held responsible for advertisements that do not comply with these instructions.

PREFERRED MATERIAL FOR PRINT ADS:  High-resolution, press-optimized pdf files. Please use only CMYK colors, and if using illustrator, make all text outlines and DO NOT set any text to Overprint Fill. We also support the following Macintosh software: QuarkXPress 6.1, Photoshop CS2, Illustrator CS2, InDesign CS2, Freehand MX and PageMaker 6.5.

For graphics, please use .eps, .tif or .jpg formats. For best results when using PC software, send graphics in .tif format. If you are working in illustrator or Freehand, convert all type to outlines or paths and embed graphics files - link them and include a copy of the original graphics file. Please provide file names, the application used and any other relative information with each submission. Photos should be 300 dpi, and black and white line art should be 600 dpi.

PROOFS: For multicolor jobs, a color proof at actual size should accompany your ad. Please note that a pdf file is not acceptable as a color proof, nor is a color print form a laser printer. Digital ads should supply a Kodak Approval proof. If a proof is not furnished, we will use a color proof provided by our printing company. For black-and-white ads, a laser print will suffice. All proofs, digital and film, should be on publication base material.

The publisher assumes no responsibility for the quality of color ads printed without a color proof. We cannot be held responsible for any errors if a proof does not accompany your files.

MATERIAL FOR ELECTRONIC MEDIA ADS:
For online ads, we accept .gif, .jpg or Macromedia Flash files. If submitting Flash files, the native .fla and .swf files must be provided in order to enter codes to track ad clicks. Ads must include a border and animation should stop after 20 seconds. E-newsletter ads should be .gif or .jpg format - no Flash files. When sending material, please be sure to indicate the url that the ad should link to.
PRODUCTION CHARGES: Advertising creative services are available for an additional fee. Advertisers or agencies will be billed for preparation of advertisements or changes to existing material, including copy changes. Additional charges will also be incurred if material sent is not received in the accepted formats.

SUBMITTING DIGITAL FILES: We can accept submissions on CD-ROM, your files can be e-mailed to us at photonics@laurin.com, or we can download directly from your ftp site. Please contact the Directory advertising production department for details on uploading your files to our ftp site. When sending via e-mail from a Macintosh, files must be stuffed and then BinHex-encoded. PC files should be zipped. Files must be sent as e-mail attachments. To compress a file, use Stuffit Delux, PKzip, WinZip or another compression format supported by these utilities. The file should be a self-extracting or a self-exploding archive.

MAILING INSTRUCTIONS: Send insertion orders and ad material to: Sandra Wood,  Laurin Publishing, Berkshire Common, 2 South St., Pittsfield, MA 01201; telephone: (413) 499-0514; fax: (413) 442-3180; e-mail: advertising@laurin.com.

TERMS: Net 30 days, no cash discounts. Finance charge of 1.5% per month will be applied on all overdue amounts. Invoices are dated the day the issue is mailed. 15% discount to all recognized agencies on space, color, bleed and position if payment is made within 30 days. Mechanical charges such as layout and typesetting are noncommissionable. For any invoiced amount remaining unpaid, Laurin Publishing reserves the right to hold the advertiser and/or its agency jointly and individually liable for the amount due and payable to the Publisher. Commissions may be revoked on any overdue invoices.

PUBLISHER'S PROTECTIVE CLAUSE:
Advertisers and their agencies are solely responsible and assume liability for the content of their advertisements. Advertisers and their agencies further agree to hold harmless and indemnify the Publisher against any claim arising from advertisements, including the reasonable cost of defense. The Publisher reserves the right to reject any advertising that does not conform to publication standards. The Publisher cannot be held responsible for circumstances beyond its control, such as a postal strike, an act of God or action by any governmental or quasi-governmental entity.
