Melles Griot
Yellow and Blue Solid-State Lasers
With Fiber Beam Delivery
CARLSBAD, Calif., June 14, 2007 -- Melles Griot, a supplier of photonics components and subsystems, said its two new lines of fiber-delivered, solid-state lasers -- the 85 BCF series operating at 488 nm (blue) and the 85 YCF series operating at 561 nm (yellow) -- facilitate system assembly and provide more system architecture options.

These solid-state systems come with an integrated single-mode fiber delivery (standard or polarization-maintaining) terminated by either an FC/APC connector or a flange-mounted collimator. The fiber mounting mechanism is shock resistant and thermally robust, ensuring pointing and power stability through temperature cycling from 10° to 40° C. The beam output is both circular and nonastigmatic; consequently, these systems are suitable alternatives to gas lasers, particularly for imaging and cell sorting applications in which beam waist location and repeatable energy profiles are paramount.
This new laser format gives OEMs flexibility to design more compact systems and provides wider choice of system architecture, Melles Griot said. Fiber delivery, with connector or flange termination gives users the ability to mount to a bulkhead connector and allow the balance of an optical train to be aligned and registered to a known, predesignated point. When the system needs service, the laser source can be replaced without realigning the optical train -- a significant opportunity for service time and cost reduction.
Both laser systems have a turnkey power supply and RS-232 interface. OEM controller boards and custom optical delivery are available.
