Green and Yellow Lasers
For Entertainment Applications
SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 23, 2008 -- Taipan lasers from Coherent Inc. provide green and true-yellow output for entertainment/light-show uses in large venues and outdoor arenas.
The products are based on Coherent’s unique OPSL (optically pumped semiconductor laser) technology, already used in for bioinstrumentation and crime-scene forensics, that enables directly modulation of the lasers' outuput up to 100 kHz.

Optically pumped semiconductor laser (OPSL) technology provides light shows with easier access to a broader range of colors and also simplifies systems because it can be directly modulated. (Photo: Lightline Lasertechnik, Osnabrueck, Germany)
The line features the Taipan 532-5 and 532-8, which deliver 5 and 8 W of green output at a wavelength of 532 nm; and the Taipan 577-3, which generates 3 W of yellow output at 577 nm, enabling full-color displays with a fuller color gamut.
Coherent said its OPSL technology features a compact, monolithic, all-semiconductor architecture that is immune to the thermal lensing that characterizes other solid-state laser technologies, enabling Taipan lasers to offer tighter divergence specifications and better beam-pointing stability. They also generate a lower thermal load than older technologies, Coherent said, and are covered by a 12-month warranty.
