AUBURN, Mass., Sept. 3, 2008 – PI (Physik Instrumente) LP has unveiled its M-810 ultra-compact, electro-mechanical, high-force hexapod six-axis micropositioning system for optical alignment applications.
Combining the company’s parallel-kinematic systems into the smallest package, the miniature hexapod fits on the top of a palm. It measures 10- by 11.8 cm, and it offers a travel range of up to 40 mm in the XY plane and 13 mm in the Z-direction. It can also reliably position loads up to 5 kg at velocities up to 10 mm/s.
The actuators are connected directly to a single moving platform. Users can define the center of rotation independent of the platform motion with a software command. The system also comes with a robust controller with a freely definable virtual pivot point. There is no accumulation of guiding and lever-arm errors according to the company.
