A range of ultrasensitive germanium detectors is available from Edinburgh Instruments Ltd. The devices, with four models available with response times and sensitivity to suit different applications, cover the 0.8- to 1.7-µm near-IR range. They are housed in liquid-nitrogen-cooled Dewar vessels with integral preamplifiers. The model PS-1 power supply is available to bias the detector and power the amplifier. The most sensitive detector has an optional muon filter to remove the signal spikes caused by cosmic rays.
