Vexcel Corp. has released a high-speed system for capturing satellite and other high-speed data streams directly onto computer disks. The VxDCS direct capture system eliminates the need for high-density recorders and their associated maintenance and costs. It consists of a Unix workstation computer, a PCI bus, an integrated circuit board, disks and a tape drive for data capture and storage. The company says the cost of basic direct capture systems is less than half that of high-density digital recorders.
