Ionas A/S has introduced a narrow-linewidth distributed feedback laser that operates at 1 µm. Customers may specify wavelengths between 1.01 and 1.08 µm; linewidth is less than 500 kHz. A 980-nm diode pumps the single-mode laser, which the company says can replace bulky solid-state lasers and eliminate any coupling loss to the optical fiber. Output power levels of up to 20 mW and signal-to-noise ratios with a minimum of 60 dB make this laser suitable for sensor and measurement applications.
