A diffusion-cooled CO₂ slab laser with output power of 3.5 kW is available from Rofin-Sinar Laser GmbH. The company says this laser, also referred to as a waveguide laser, offers a significant reduction in operating costs for cutting and welding applications, and eliminates the need for an external laser gas supply. With no moving parts such as turbines or pumps to wear out, service requirements are minimal. The gas cylinder, which is integrated into the laser head, provides gas for approximately 12 months.
