Santa Clara, Calif.-based Coherent Inc. announced that it has formed a telecommunications business unit to manage the company's strategies in the market. The unit will coordinate the efforts of its semiconductor growth facility in Tampere, Finland, its semiconductor packaging and test center in Santa Clara, and its optical fabrication and coating plant in Auburn, Calif.
Coherent will consolidate its optical fabrication, coating and assembly operations in Auburn. It has ordered additional equipment for the production of filters used in dense wavelength division multiplexing applications.
