Coherent Inc., Auburn Group has released a laser system based on an InGaN laser diode that emits in the blue/violet region of the spectrum with a center wavelength at 405 nm and output power of approximately 4 mW. The blue/violet diode laser system uses the company's patented Alignlock technology to mount the laser diode and optics in the same 44.5 x 222-mm housing for a well-aligned module with boresighting of ±1.2 mrad. The system is thermoelectrically cooled to 20 °C for a typical mean time to failure between 500 and 1000 h of continuous-wave operation. Applications for this system include spectroscopy, biomedical instrumentation, cytometry, fluorescence, microscopy, printing and optical storage.
