New Wave Research Inc. of Fremont, Calif., and Opto System Co. Ltd. of Kyotanabe, Japan, have agreed to jointly develop and market advanced LED wafer-scribing systems for the semiconductor manufacturing market. Opto System's background in mechanical systems integration will complement New Wave's experience in laser technology and beam delivery systems. New Wave has accumulated intellectual property rights and expertise in laser systems and is creating a portfolio of patents in methods and devices related to laser applications in the LED manufacturing process.
