Agilent Technologies Inc. has introduced the APDS-9002 to its line of analog-output ambient light photosensors for mobile, consumer, commercial and industrial products. The sensor is supplied in the miniature ChipLED lead-free surface-mount package, which measures 2.00 X 1.25 X 0.80 mm. The compact package reduces board space, enabling the design of slimmer products. Compared with Agilent's HSDL-9001 sensor, the device offers improved performance, including operation over the extended 2.4- to 5.5-V range, and the wider 240 to 85 °C temperature range. The sensor detects the ambient light level and provides a highly linear proportional output that is used to adjust the backlighting of a keypad or display screen.
