OPTICAL FIBERS

Fiberguide Industries Inc. has introduced its latest Eduraguide line of large-core multimode optical fibers. Included are a plastic hard clad silica (PHCS) coated fiber with a numerical aperture of 0.37 and a PHCS-coated silica/silica type with a numerical aperture of 0.22 and attenuation of <10 dB/km at 850 nm. Suitable for such applications as laser delivery systems, short-to-medium-distance data communications, factory automation, automotive cabling, near-IR spectroscopy and optical pyrometry, the fibers offer high concentricity and a high core-to-clad ratio. Their hard polymer coating provides strength, reduces static fatigue in humid environments and protects the fiber against breakage during buffer stripping.
