The Bioscope SZ atomic force microscope from Veeco Instruments Inc. is for use by life sciences researchers in high-resolution imaging, molecular pulling, protein folding/unfolding, cell morphology, and microbe and virus analysis applications. The system combines a Hybrid X-Y-Z scanning head with an integrated optical microscope to produce nanometer-scale lateral and angstrom-scale vertical resolution that the company says is two orders of magnitude better than that provided by standard optical microscopes. The scanner delivers six times lower Z-sensor noise, precise X-Y control and accurate three-axis closed-loop control for pulling techniques.
