An InGaAs/InP near-IR avalanche photodiode for single-photon counting at 0.9 to 1.6 µm has been launched by Goodrich Corp. The SU055-GMAPD-FO provides low dark current with high responsivity for Geiger mode or high-gain linear mode single-photon counting. The device comprises an avalanche photodiode chip, a thermistor thermoelectric cooler, and optical fiber coupling optics. It enables ultralow-noise analog optical detection up to approximately 1 GHz. It comes standard with 1 m of 50-µm-core multimode fiber with an FC connector. A single-mode optical pigtail is optional. Uses include quantum cryptography, optical time-domain reflectometry, NIR spectroscopy, time-resolved emission detection for failure analysis and singlet oxygen detection.
