The PathFindIR module introduced by Flir Systems Inc. is a thermal imaging device designed for commercial vehicles to reduce risks of operating after dark. The camera creates real-time video by detecting variances in temperature, providing the driver with an in-cab display wherein warm objects appear light and cool ones, black. Thus, it helps to distinguish people and animals in the vehicle’s path or environs. The company says that the system, based on technology used by the military, allows the driver to see more than five times farther than headlights do.
