DRS Data & Imaging Systems Inc. has enhanced its line of Lightning cameras with the Lightning RDT^Plus (research, design and test plus) high-speed digital video model. It comprises a small and lightweight camera head, a detachable cable and a frame grabber board that can capture up to 5000 full frames per second at 512 × 512-pixel resolution and up to 100,000 fps at reduced resolutions. Several camera head configurations are available, including monochrome, color and low-light. The 4-GB base memory can be expanded to 16 GB to allow at least 13 s of uncompressed full-resolution recording at 5000 fps, and recording time can be increased to 1 min or more by reducing the frame rate to 1000 fps. The digital interface on the frame grabber board streams image data at a rate of up to 1.25 GB/s.
