Photon Machines has announced the ProMaster, a compact micromachining system powered by a preionized excimer laser that operates with flat beams or with pulses as short as 4 ns FWHM at 193 nm. The device provides 32 user-selectable motifs, step and repeat, or fire laser with XY motion to write complex patterns with high peak power. An intelligent aperture option combines fixed motifs with a programmable rectangular aperture to create virtual masks that can be stored in memory. The system includes ProcessPower software with integrated closed-circuit television and image-processing capabilities. It is suitable for machining a variety of polymers and thin metallic and oxide films, including drilling and milling dielectric materials and forming microlenses.
