Low-operating-current red laser diodes manufactured by Opnext Inc. are suitable for use in laser levelers, measurement equipment and mobile rangefinders, and in medical and display applications. They operate at 635 nm with 5 and 7 mW of optical output power. The company says that these instruments provide a 50% decrease in operating current and an aspect ratio improvement from 3.8 to 3.1, compared with its original product.
