A contamination-resistant grid encoder for use with the NanoGrid system has been launched by
Optra Inc. All elements are electrically connected, so the grid surface can be set at a fixed electrical potential to eliminate static electricity and inhibit particle accumulation. The grid is part of the company’s position measurement systems, which use laser diffraction principles to encode the position of a glass scale or grid relative to a sensor head with sub-nanometer resolution. The NanoGrid offers three standard data interfaces: 32-bit parallel word, PCI bus and serial A-quad-B, making it suitable for use with most motion controllers. The software drivers include a graphical user interface for setup and integration.
