New Scale Technologies Inc. has introduced its latest Squiggle linear motor. The SQL-1.5 piezoelectric motor, which measures 1.5 × 1.5 × 6 mm, offers a 20-g push force and submicron position resolution. It operates at a speed of up to 10 mm/s and is suitable for use in phone cameras and medical devices. Its patented ceramic design generates no magnetic fields and can be made of nonferrous materials, making it MRI-safe and image compatible. Typical input power when moving is 400 mW (<40 V).
