The ODA-5W-100M photodetector/amplifier with 100-Mohm gain is now available from Opto Diode Corp. The device comes in a standard TO-5 package and has a variety of applications, including fluorescence and spectroscopy. It is suitable for low-light-level tasks where electrical noise levels can affect the photodiode signal if the detector and amplifier are separate components on a printed circuit board. The detector offers visible wavelength responsivity of 40 V/μW at 660 nm, and its active area is 0.100 in. in diameter. The detector/preamplifier frequency response is 1 kHz, with low dark offset at ±1 mV and dark offset noise at 5 mV rms. Operating specifications are ±15 V, 25 °C. Other gains are available.
