A fiber optic transceiver based on a high-speed resonant-cavity LED has been launched by Firecomms Ltd. Compliant with the MOST optical physical layer specification revision 1.1 over an operating temperature range of –40 to 95 °C, the device provides optical power of >–7 dBm at an operating current of <25 mA, and fast rising and falling optical edges of <4.2 ns. The FCM110R transmitter and FCM110D receiver are four-pin plastic-packaged components. The receiver uses a CMOS design that produces minimum sensitivity of –28 dBm. Digital input/output data conforms to TTL switching levels.
