The Digital Eclipse DXM1200C is a photomicrographic camera made by
Nikon Instruments Inc. and featuring a Peltier cooling mechanism that maintains the temperature at 20 °C below ambient and decreases heat-induced noise. The camera offers improved resolution and added software for better control, digital viewing and image capture in low-light applications. Using proprietary pixel-stepping technology, the camera can capture image files with up to 12.6 million pixels. It uses a color Bayer mask 2/3-in. CCD chip with 1.45 million effective pixels and offers 14 modes of image frame size capture. Shutter speeds range from 1/16,000 s up to 60 s, and the signal-to-noise ratio is about 50 dB.
