High-power high-speed laser diode drivers have been announced by LIC Engineering. The LD-1500A and LD-3000A offer quasi-continuous-wave output of 20 kW at up to 120 A/170 V. Average power for the 1500A model is 1.5 kW and, for the 3000A, 3 kW. Peak current for both is 350 A, and rise time is 30 ns. A specially designed stripline provides a distance of 2 m between the driver and the diode. The drivers can be controlled via the front panel or by an optically isolated external interface.
