Toyoda Gosei and Philips Share LED Patents

Toyoda Gosei Co. Ltd. of Aichi, Japan, and Philips Lumileds Lighting Co. of San Jose, Calif., have entered into an agreement under which the companies and their subsidiaries will share patents for specific technologies in group III-V semiconductor LEDs. Toyoda holds patents for blue LEDs, while Philips Lumileds holds them for high-brightness red LEDs and high-power blue LEDs. They intend to create an environment in which they can work together to advance the market for LED products and to accelerate research to improve the luminosity of the devices.

Philips Lumileds, formerly known as Lumileds Lighting International BV, is a majority-owned subsidiary of Royal Philips Electronics of Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
