Compact laser modules that generate an accurate line or cross at 635 or 650 nm with uniform intensity distribution have been developed by Photonic Products Ltd. Measuring 29 mm in length and 8 mm in diameter, they are suitable for handheld instrumentation, targeting, alignment and machine vision applications. They generate either a 70° full-angle cross or a 58° or 88° full-angle line, all factory-focused at 1000 mm. Other focus distances are available upon request. The instruments deliver output power of 0.9 or 4.0 mW with power stability of <5%. Operating voltage is from a 3- to 6VDC supply at a typical operating current of 30 mA at 0.9 mW and of 40 mA at 4.0 mW. The operating temperature range is –10 to 40 °C. The brass housing encases a laser diode, a drive circuit and beam-shaping optics. All versions of the modules offer static, surge and reverse polarity circuit protection.
