For precision micromachining applications in the microelectronics industry, including drilling, cutting, scribing and marking, Coherent Inc. has introduced the Avia 532-30 laser. Diode-pumped and Q-switched, it delivers more than 30 W of 532-nm output and has a TEM00 beam with an M2 of <1.3. It can be operated with pulse repetition rates from single-shot up to 150 kHz and with pulse widths as short as 45 ns. Based on harmonic generation of Nd-doped gain media, it uses the proprietary PermAlign solder-bonding technology for the mounting of the resonator optics, and long-life Aluminum-free Active Area pump laser diodes. Total Pulse Control software facilitates operation and integration by enabling customized pulse control and power on demand. The company says that the instrument produces a minimal heat-affected zone and high spatial resolution.
