PMDTechnologies GmbH offers the PMD 3k-S video range camera for acquiring and handling 3-D data. It comprises a high-speed 3-D camera that is based on a 64 × 48-pixel photonic mixer device sensor array. Distance data are acquired using the time-of-flight principle with modulated near-IR radiation. Each pixel simultaneously delivers distance information and resolution as well as gray-scale information. The camera features integrated active suppression of background illumination for each pixel. Distance information can be calculated within the camera, with only 3-D data transferred to the PC, or the camera can output the raw data, with the PC calculating the distance map.
