Super-Rapid, a picosecond laser manufactured by Lumera Laser GmbH, performs micromachining of most materials with no heat-affected zones, no cracks and no burr at the edges. The beam can be focused to a submicron diameter, and each controllable single-picosecond pulse will remove layers of about 10 nm. The laser head is sealed and thermalized, and the control software enables the user to preprogram single and double pulses as well as groups of any number of picosecond pulses with variable delay. The sequences can be internally triggered with repetition rates of up to 500 kHz or by external TTL pulses.
