For scientific research applications, the
Spectra-Physics division of Newport Corp. has introduced the Excelsior-473 and -532 diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) lasers, which generate 10 mW and 20 to 150 mW of 473- and 532-nm output, respectively. CDRH-compliant, they are operated by a stand-alone power supply that accepts input voltages of 110 to 240 VAC at 50 to 60 Hz. They feature a key switch, a safety interlock and an integrated active light loop for output power stability over a wide temperature range. Proprietary and patented intracavity doubling generates visible light with high conversion efficiency, resulting in low power consumption. The company says that the continuous-wave instruments provide a high-quality optical beam, low optical noise and high reliability.
