PerkinElmer Inc. of Boston has acquired Belfast, UK-based Avalon Instruments Ltd. The acquisition adds benchtop dispersive Raman spectrometers to PerkinElmer’s product portfolio. The Avalon Raman platforms support both bulk analysis and microscopic imaging. The technology has applications in the pharmaceutical, forensic and academic markets. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The new Raman products under the PerkinElmer name are expected to be shipping to customers as soon as this month.
