The Spectra-Physics Laser Div. of Newport Corp. has announced the Explorer Scientific, a low-power intracavity tripled and actively switched diode-pumped solid-state laser that delivers up to 120 μJ at 349 nm. Targeted for scientific research applications, the UV device can be operated from single-shot up to a 5-kHz repetition frequency at variable pulse energies. Proprietary intracavity technology enables longer lifetimes and high-energy pulses at lower pump powers. Pulse-to-pulse stability is <3% rms, resulting in a low signal-to-noise ratio. The LabView graphical user interface allows USB connectivity.
