Liekki Corp. is providing noncircular optical fibers for applications that require high power delivery. Square and rectangular passive fibers are available, as are various combinations, including rectangular core/round cladding and rectangular core/rectangular cladding. The noncircular shapes are the result of proprietary direct nanoparticle deposition technology and a new glasswork process. Square and rectangular geometries improve matching to optical sources as well as beam control and propagation, and they can route fibers in unusual footprints. Applications include illumination, signage and ordnance detonation.
