The LxSentry monitoring system unveiled by LxSix Photonics Inc. is a fiber optic pipeline intrusion and leak-detection system that operates over distances of up to hundreds of kilometers. It automatically detects, locates and classifies noises and vibrations in the vicinity of its damage-resistant cable, distinguishing among leaks, tampering, intrusions, digging, and machinery and vehicles operating nearby. Its high sensitivity helps operators prevent illegal tapping, intrusions and leaks that cannot be detected by conventional flow metering. Based on proprietary Write-On technology, the compact, lightweight system offers speed and a wide bandwidth. The sensors are electrically passive and immune to electromagnetic fields and, because they do not generate heat or sparks, can be used in hazardous environments. They operate at high temperatures and do not corrode. The Red Alert software suite provides acoustic algorithm analysis, graphical mapping and automated alarms.
