OPTICAL TERMINATION

The HD 1.25-mm optical termination method has been developed by Tyco Electronics for aerospace and defense applications that require a common terminus for all types of high-density fiber optic connectors. Compatible with single- and multimode fibers, the termini have a pull-resistant design that eliminates the need for strain relief on the back shell and a genderless contact that enables use of the same contact on both connector halves. Standard 1.25-mm ferrules and sleeves, and LC-type polishing facilitate installation. Mean insertion loss is 0.10 dB for single-mode and 0.07 dB for multimode operation. The termini can be used in a variety of connector shell styles, including size 8 quadrax cavity reducer, Arinc 600, LC adapter, Mil-C-38999 and general-purpose rectangular.
