DWDM LASERS
Applied Optoelectronics Inc. has introduced dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) lasers that can transmit over distances greater than 200 km (3600 ps/nm) in a single-mode fiber. They are compatible with direct modulation at up to 2.5 Gb/s for OC-48/STM-16 applications and are available in the C-band ITU-T G.692-recommended wavelengths at 100-GHz spacing. The distributed feedback, multiquantum-well lasers offer high speed and low dispersion penalty. They are supplied in a hermetically sealed standard 14-pin butterfly package with an optical isolator, feature 25 Ω RF input impedance and meet GR 468 reliability standards. The technology enables operators to increase capacity without adding infrastructure.
