Liekki Corp. is offering custom manufacturing services for conventional round preforms as well as noncircular shapes such as rectangular. The company’s direct nanoparticle deposition process provides single-step deposition of highly doped core preforms, simultaneously depositing waveguiding and doping materials. The company says that the technique is especially effective for large-core fibers that require flat refractive-index and/or radially doped profiles. The nanoparticles lessen effects such as clustering and photodarkening in ytterbium-doped fibers. The company produces erbium- and ytterbium-doped preforms with an aluminosilicate glass host and with core-to-cladding ratios ranging from 1:5 to 1:20.
