Newport Corp.’s Integrated Solutions Business division has announced a complete system for micromachining photovoltaic devices, or solar cells. Comprising several submodules, the apparatus includes facilities to handle the electrical conductor and semiconductor components of a solar cell as well as the machine vision, motion control, laser source and beam delivery aspects of cell machining. The system can maneuver a wide variety of panel sizes, and its X-Y-Z gantry precisely locates the beam delivery unit over the loaded panel.
