Intense Ltd. of Glasgow, UK, a developer of modular laser products for printing, defense and industrial applications, has acquired High Power Devices Inc., a North Brunswick, N.J., supplier of customized high-power laser diodes for the defense, medical and industrial markets. The merger creates a new company, called Intense, which will supply, on a global basis, high-power single emitters, bars, stacks and laser arrays for a broad variety of customers and markets. The two businesses are supported by one sales and marketing team operating out of the UK and the US. The New Jersey unit will be called Intense — HPD. The deal was financed through equity and debt.
