Q-SWITCHED DISC LASER

Rofin_StarDisc_10x10.jpgRofin-Baasel Lasertech has introduced a Q-switched disc laser that the company says increases throughput by a factor of three to five when drilling via holes in solar cells. The StarDisc 100 ICQ operates at a rate of 3000 holes per second with the emitter wrap-through method and at 25 holes per second with the metal wrap-through method. The device achieves speeds of 100 mm/s when cutting solar cells with typical thicknesses of 200 to 250 μm, and for scribing, it operates at 200 mm/s with a depth of 400 μm. It also is suitable for separating inhomogeneous materials. Employing multipass technology, it ablates materials layer by layer with high laser power at high removal rates and with minimal melt generation.
