Adaptif Photonics GmbH has released software for its A1200 PER Analyzer that enables accurate splicing of any combination of polarization-maintaining (PM) fibers. The angular alignment between the splices is important in many laser and sensor applications. Splicing of specialty PM fibers, such as noncircular and double-clad types, or splicing nonmatched PM fibers, such as panda to bow-tie, or tiger to bow-tie, has been problematic. The A1200 system accurately measures the alignment of the PM fibers. It communicates with the Fujikura PM splicer FSM-45PM and supports closed-loop operation. It achieves splices with high polarization extinction ratios.
