A fully qualified high-power single-emitter module for fiber laser pumping has been unveiled by Bookham Inc. The uncooled device delivers 8 to 10 W of light output power at 940 nm from a 105-μm-core-diameter fiber with a 0.15 or a 0.22 numerical aperture. The hermetic transistorlike package incorporates a floating anode and cathode and is available in 2- and 3-pin versions. The module underwent a 2000-h accelerated life test at 10-A injection current with a 45 °C heat sink temperature, and it exhibited long-term stability.
